Most eyelash extension sets last from 6-8 weeks. A refill touch-up is usually done around 2-3 weeks. If you want to reach more towards the 8-week end, it's important to learn how to take care of fake eyelashes.

Eyelash Extension Aftercare

Upon receiving the lash extension, try to avoid contact with water or moisture on your face for 24-hours. You want the glue to be able to dry and settle for as long as possible. If washing your face, avoid the eye area and use an oil-free remover if taking off makeup. 

While this may seem obvious, try your best to avoid touching/rubbing your eyes and picking at your lashes. We don't realize how often we really do touch our faces and rub our eyes. Doing this with lash extensions can actually cause harm to your natural lashes.  

Avoid waterproof eye makeup products. Waterproof eye products don't remove easily, they typically require an oil-based remover that will agitate your lashes and rough them up. If you can, try and avoid mascara all together to keep your lashes in the best condition. 

To make the most out of your eyelash set, you have to be consistent with getting them refilled. Try to keep appointments set for every 2 weeks.

Keeping up with lash refills will contribute towards maintaining a full-looking set regularly. You may find that booking these appointments in advance helps with staying consistent. 

Your lash refills will save you money in the long run. A full new set of lashes is more costly than a refill, so if you miss the refills you will constantly be paying for a new set.  

The most important factor in getting your lashes to last is to keep them clean.  Cleaning your lashes is different than just washing your face. You'll want to get a foaming lash cleanser. Baby shampoo can work for this as well. 

When looking for a lash cleanser, look for the most natural and simple product you can find. It is recommended to stay away from oil-based products and alcohol-based products. 

You'll want to clean them regularly to avoid bacteria in the lashes, as well as to maintain eye and lash health. It helps remove the build-up of things like oil, dirt, and dandruff that will interfere with lash health. 

Find a mascara wand that fits the size and length of your lashes. Stray away from electronic lash curlers or brushes. This increases the risk of damage to your extension set as well as your natural set of lashes. 

Brushing your lashes should occur regularly as well. It is not uncommon for lashes to get tangled up and caught on each other, and a simple eyelash brush can help prevent this. 

Similar to the reason you need to clean your lashes, you need to brush them. It is recommended to brush them following cleaning, or again, whenever they get tangled up. However, beware of over-brushing and try to do it only when needed.
