Lash Extensions for Men: Breaking Beauty Stereotypes

Lash Extensions for Men: Breaking Beauty Stereotypes

It’s 2024, and it goes without saying that lashes are for everyone. While traditionally they’ve been worn almost exclusively by women, there’s absolutely no reason why it should stop there. In the past decade, we’ve seen a boom of inclusivity in the beauty industry. We’re seeing more people wear makeup, nails, and participate in trends otherwise usually for women in an effort to celebrate beauty. Here at Sugarlash PRO, we launched our very own Lashes for All Campaign to showcase that lashes can be worn by anyone and everyone.

This move towards inclusivity in the beauty industry also comes with new skills for service providers. Everything from facial features to style preferences can change when we’re looking at styling lashes on men, and we’re here to give you our top tips.

Key points to remember:

  • Inclusivity is key. The beauty industry is evolving, and it’s important to cater to all genders.
  • Men are embracing lash extensions. More and more men are seeking lash services to enhance their appearance.
  • Consultation is crucial. Understanding the client's desired look and lifestyle is essential for successful lash application.
  • Styling for men requires specific considerations. Facial features and style preferences play a significant role in achieving the perfect lash look for men.

The Consultation

Like every client you might be seeing, figuring out how to give them exactly what they’re envisioning starts at the consultation. While this might not be the case for every man coming into your studio, there’s a good chance that this is their first time getting a lash service done. This is the perfect opportunity to ask some of the following questions:

  • What do they want to look like? Do they want a natural enhancement or a more dramatic look?
  • How much maintenance are they comfortable with to upkeep their lashes? Are they willing to come in for regular refills or prefer a low-maintenance option?
  • What does their day-to-day routine look like? Do they have an active lifestyle or work in an environment where lash extensions might be a concern?

Asking these questions will help you both determine if a lash lift or lash extensions will be a better fit. When discussing lifestyle and maintenance, it’ll be important to explain what that service might look like, at-home maintenance, and how often they have to come in to refresh their look when making these decisions.

Styling

When we’re considering what might look best on more masculine features, it might change how you style lashes. Features such as a more prominent brow bone, fuller brows, more angular features, and less lid space are all factors that will impact how lashes are styled. PRO Tip: if you’re looking for a little extra guidance on how to style masculine features consider taking LashSTYLE, we have a whole module on it.

Depending on what their desired final look is, you may want to use shorter lengths, doll eye, or open eye styles that open up the eyes and stay away from any styles that may weigh down the face.

Additional tips for styling lashes on men:

  • Consider the natural lash line. Men often have thicker and straighter natural lashes. Choose lash extensions that complement their natural lash line and create a seamless blend.
  • Focus on enhancing the eyes. The goal is to create a subtle yet impactful enhancement that accentuates the eyes without looking overly feminine.
  • Use lighter-weight lashes. Avoid heavy or dramatic lashes that might appear too artificial or overwhelm the client's features.
  • Customize the look. Every client is unique. Take the time to personalize the lash style to suit their individual preferences and facial structure.
Remember: The most important thing is to make your clients feel comfortable and confident. By offering a welcoming and inclusive environment, you can help men embrace the benefits of lash extensions and express their personal style.
