Behind the Scenes: A Day in the Life of a Lash Educator

Behind the Scenes: A Day in the Life of a Lash Educator

Tammy here, Global Director of Education for Sugarlash PRO, and today I am excited to welcome you all into a glimpse of my world as a lash artist and educator. A decade ago, armed with a bachelor's degree in Education, I never imagined that a career in lashes would open such a diverse realm of opportunities. This journey allows me to blend my passion for beauty with the art of teaching, all while spending precious time with my family.

At Sugarlash PRO, I have the privilege of nurturing my creativity and artistic skills with every lash set I create. The ultimate reward is sharing this knowledge with emerging lash artists who share the same desire to help others feel beautiful and confident.

The lash industry is booming on a global scale, and I am thrilled to be part of this ever-evolving landscape. Join me as I offer a behind-the-scenes look at my life as a lash artist and educator.

Traveling abroad for lash training is an adventure in itself. It involves meticulous planning, from arranging flights, accommodations, and transportation within the city, to crafting customized itineraries and curriculum based on Sugarlash PRO courses all while researching and adhering to unique state regulations. Ensuring that students’ manuals and kits are prepared and dispatched to schools before training is a vital part of the process. And, of course, my educator suitcase, packed with essential products and supplies, accompanies me on every journey.

When I pack for travelling to schools, I pack as if I’m about to do a full set of lashes. Here are all my must haves as a lash artist and educator with Sugarlash PRO:

  • Trays of lash extensions in Runway, Plush, and Flat with a variety of dimensions and lengths for demonstrations.
  • Sugarlash PRO Lift, Set, Nourish, lift adhesive, and a variety of lash shields.
  • My favourite tweezers like the V-65, V-90, I-S, U-Curve by Sugarlash PRO. Don’t forget a front view lash mirror!
  • Adhesives - since adhesives are climate dependent, I like to bring Sugarlash PRO Signature, Naked, and Bond Noir along with me.
  • An assortment of liquids for prepping and retention such as cleansers, primers, curator, control, finishing spray.
  • All application supplies, like my lash tile, adhesive stickers, various gel pads, and tapes.
  • An array of disposables. For example, flocked applicators, mascara wands, and micro brushes.
  • A mannequin head and practice lashes. And yes, please check your bags when travelling with a mannequin head, trust me, it reduces the side-eyes you’ll inevitably get while going through security.

Preparation for training involves a coordinated effort across multiple departments, from schools and our CEO and academy coordinator to the distributor and warehouse team and, of course, our educators. The final day of training is intense as students put their knowledge into action during hands-on practicums. However, our commitment doesn't end with training; at Sugarlash PRO, we strongly believe in providing ongoing support and follow-ups as needed.

When I'm not jet-setting for training, my days are equally bustling, as I strive to maintain a work-life balance while raising a family. Here's a glimpse into a typical day for me as a working mom:

5:30 am – Rise and fit in a 60-minute workout while the kids are still asleep.

6:30 am – Shower and enjoy a quick breakfast.

7:00 am – Wake up my two kids, prepare their breakfast, and get ready for the day.

8:00 am – Drive my son to school, then my daughter to school.

8:45 am – Return home and dive into work, which can encompass a variety of tasks, from curriculum development for schools to ongoing student support, meetings, lashing clients, filming content for our social media, and other essential duties.

4:30 pm – Pick up my kids from school and drive my daughter to dance and martial arts.

6:00 pm – Dinner and drive my son to his basketball training.

8:30 pm – Return home, prepare the kids for bedtime.

9:30 pm – Any spare moments I find throughout the day are dedicated to baking for my home-based cookie business, tending to household chores, or indulging in some well-deserved personal downtime.

Fun fact: I trained in coding with a professor from Berkeley in Python and JavaScript programming languages. Even though I’m still a newbie to the world of coding, I can develop simple apps and digital games and even basic websites. I am still learning and practicing in my down time and hope to utilize these skills in the future with Sugarlash PRO!

As busy as my days are, I cherish each moment. I find fulfillment in staying active and productive, all while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. My role as the Global Director of Education for Sugarlash PRO affords me the flexibility to work from home when I'm not on the road. I feel incredibly fortunate to have discovered a career that aligns with my passion for travel, education, and cultural exploration, while also contributing to the growth of Sugarlash PRO and the lash industry. This journey has not only allowed me to follow my passion but has also fostered my personal and professional growth. I would recommend anyone get started in the lash industry. Whether it is as a way to make extra money on the side, or if it’s a career goal to turn this into a full time opportunity, the possibilities are truly endless in this ever-changing, fast-paced, and crazy world of lashes.
