1. It Starts with Understanding the Natural Lash
Before choosing a shield or opening your solutions, you need to understand what you're working with.
Fine, medium and coarse lashes don't necessarily respond in exactly the same way. Sugarlash PRO's training teaches artists to assess the natural lashes before treatment because lash characteristics influence everything from processing to product application.
Fine lashes, for example, have a higher risk of over-processing, while thicker, coarse lashes can be more resistant and may require longer processing.

2. Shield Selection Can Make or Break the Result
One of the most common questions surrounding Lash Lifts is:
Which shield should I use?
There isn't one answer for every client.
Shield selection should consider the client's natural lash length as well as the type of lift you're trying to create.
The Sugarlash PRO method teaches artists to measure the lashes and select a shield according to both lash length and desired result. Artists then check the lashes against the shield: if they extend beyond the upper ridge, the shield may be too small; if they reach only around one-third of the shield, it may be too large.
That small decision can have a significant impact on the finished lift.

Placement matters.
Natural lashes should be carefully separated and positioned smoothly against the shield. The course specifically teaches artists to use tools such as a Lash Pick or Y-Tool to separate and straighten lashes so there are no clumps or overlapping hairs before processing begins.

Too little processing can result in lashes that don't lift sufficiently.
Too much can compromise the result and potentially leave lashes appearing brittle, frizzy or dry.

5. A Great Lash Artist Knows How to Troubleshoot
Even experienced artists can encounter a result that isn't exactly what they expected.
One eye may appear more lifted than the other. A curl may be too tight. Lashes may not lift enough. They may appear dry or frizzy.

7. Finish by Nourishing the Lashes
A beautiful Lash Lift isn't complete when the processing ends. The final step is about caring for the natural lashes you've just transformed.
After lifting and setting, apply NOURISH using a flocked applicator to help strengthen and condition the lashes. During a Lash Lift, NOURISH also helps break down the adhesive holding the lashes to the shield, allowing them to release gently.
Allow NOURISH to sit for 2–3 minutes, then carefully remove any excess solution—without using water.
It's a simple finishing step, but an important reminder that beautiful Lash Lift results aren't only about achieving the perfect curl.
They're also about maintaining the condition and integrity of the natural lashes.
